The Citizen Foundation(TCF)

History

TCF is a professionally managed, non-profit organization set up in 1995 by a group of citizens concerned with the dismal state of education in Pakistan. It is now one of Pakistan's leading organizations in the field of formal education. As of 2009 TCF has established 600 purpose-built school units nationwide with an enrollment of 80,000 students. TCF encourages female enrollment and boasts of a 50% female ratio in almost every campus. TCF has a full Female Faculty of 4,150 members. TCF also has a dedicated Teacher Training Center in Karachi for the ongoing training of its faculty and provides logistical support to all its teachers. 6, 026 jobs have been created in communities in which TCF operates.

The vision of TCF is to remove barriers of class and privilege and to make the citizens of Pakistan Agents of Positive Change. We believe that access to basic education is the right of each individual and not a privilege. Apart from following the regular curriculum, we focus on the character building of students to equip them with high moral values and confidence.

To achieve our goals, TCF is constantly surveying education-deprived locations in Pakistan to extend its network. Each new location is appraised through an extensive land survey, assessment of population, income level, number and standard of existing schools in the area, demand for new school units, availability of an accessible site to build a school, qualified teachers in the area and a number of other criteria.

TCF is registered in Pakistan as a Company limited by guarantee under section 42 of the Companies Ordinance, 1984 and its accounts are audited by KPMG Taseer Hadi and Co. TCF is ranked amongst the top five scoring organizations certified by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) and has received high non-profit organization (NPO) governance rating of GR-8 by JCR-VIS Credit Rating Co Ltd.

Mission Statement

The mission of TCF is to promote mass scale, quality formal education for less privileged children in an environment that encourages intellectual, moral and spiritual growth. TCF will pursue its mission and goals in a responsible manner with honesty, integrity and transparency.

We are committed to remain in focus that our success has been on account of the circle of trust that has been built over the years: trust of our donors who contribute generously; trust of our committed teachers and staff who have dedicated themselves to the mission of promoting and imparting education to less privileged children; trust of our volunteers who spend so much of their valuable time and energy to promote our cause; trust of the parents who put their children in our charge. We plan to work tirelessly to safeguard this trust. It is the very basis of our existence – a doctrine to guide all our actions.
